Vacation Bible School...

E had a wonderful time at her first-ever vacation Bible school...although she was getting pretty worn out by the end of the week and missing mommy a lot! I had fun in the preschool craft room with my dear friend Jenny (who just happens to be Hailey's Mommy....Hailey is E's "best best friend"...too fun!)

Honey do....

Poor hubby recently had to repair the incoming water line to our house, following our foundation repair...we'd developed a leak due to a cracked pipe. I was about to throw in the towel and hire a plumber, but hubby persisted....finally, the leak is fixed, and hubby saved us about $1000! Way to go honey!

Father's Day art project...

E and I worked together on personalized stepping stones for hubby and my dad....you haven't lived until you've dealt with a hyper three year old and wet cement... But I know that the guys are going to love their special treats!

Happy Father's Day to my hubby, my sweet Daddy and all of the special daddies we know! Also, happy birthday to my hubby! How fun that his bday and father's day are on the same day this year!

Overheard...

We've had an especially trying week with hubby starting a new job assignment, sewer leak repairmen and city inspectors in and out of the house, E not feeling well, freelance work stress for me and so much more.

Today, I was scurrying around trying to accomplish things while E sat at the kitchen table eating her lunch -- I'd fed her but hadn't prepared anything for myself or even made my routine mid-day cup of hot tea. E put down her fork, looked at me, sighed and said:

"Mommy, you just need to calm down, sit down and eat something!"

That child is wise beyond her years!

Storms, storms go away...

...and please don't come another day! Our poor lace bark elm has taken another beating, and will have to have about five more branches taken out....and our Chinese Pistache by our driveway is going to have to come down.....see the huge crack down the trunk? It already had a small crack that we noticed last year. We "cabled" the tree to try to help it heal. Well, the cabling did keep it from falling on our home and our neighbor's home, but now we're going to lose the poor tree anyway. Our neighborhood really took a beating. Almost every single home has tree damage of varying severity, and many have roof damage as well. Nothing like Texas weather!

(These poor baby doves and their mommy must have lost their nest in the fray...they've been camping by our front door for a while now...I can hear them calling to each other from inside the house!)

Who is this grown up girl...

...and what did she do with my little baby!?
(LOVE her new white summer sandals...
nothing like changing shoe sizes
in the middle of a season!)

Purple coneflowers...

Hubby planted these in our front yard last year....I wasn't totally convinced about them until I saw their awesome majesty this year....they have expanded like crazy....and they are a super butterfly magnet! Have a space in full sun for a plant? Go buy some of these awesome low-water use plants!

Watering plants at Gramma's...

E loves to "help" with chores and adores watering plants. And at Gramma's, she gets to do whatever she wants! Recently, she enjoyed helping my mom take care of the many potted plants in their beautiful backyard...

Take a bow...

E has developed an odd way of taking a bow after she does something she's proud of. She showed me her tilt-to-the-side bow after hopping down her hopscotch drawn on the sidewalk in our backyard - so silly!

Penny for your thoughts...

This morning we visited a local farmer's market with our friend Laura - so much wonderful produce! I stocked up on fresh peaches, cantaloupe, purple-hull peas, tomatoes, yellow squash and more. Near the area where we were shopping, E spotted a fountain and was excited to have another opportunity to throw in pennies! She's been enamored with this concept lately! And she finally will toss the money in...for the longest time she would just hold onto it and didn't understand about tossing it in. Now, she wants to put pennies in every fountain we pass. Guess I'd better keep a good penny stash in my wallet!

Creative costuming: Part Two

It's oh-so-fun to combine daddy's shoes, Mommy's shorts and tshirt (put on backwards) and daddy's PT belt from work into a fun get-up:

Creative costuming: Part One

E's been into dressing herself in some pretty hilarious creations lately. This Elmo slipper-undies-pj shirt-glasses-firehat combination was this morning's creation:

Overheard...

E was outside playing in her kiddie pool over the weekend, when she started acting up, jumping and splashing in such a way that I was afraid she would fall and hurt herself. I was sitting in our porch swing, wearing sunglasses and reading a book while E was playing. When she started acting up, I put my book down, took my sunglasses off and asked E to look at me while I was talking to her, so I would know she was listening to me telling her to not jump and splash like that in the pool, because she could get hurt.

She said, "Mommy, you just need to put your sunglasses back on and start reading your book again so you can't see what I am doing!"

I was speechless! :-)
