I knew this wasn't going to end well...

You guessed correctly, shortly after snapping these photos, this huge lace bark elm limb crashed down into our yard and landed on our fence. The fence is actually fine, suffering only a minor cracked board, but the limb managed to fall around midnight last Saturday, meaning hubby and I had some super bonding time in the backyard in the middle of the night trying to clean up the mess! We didn't want to limb to lay on the fence all night, for fear the weight of it would cause further damage. We love this huge tree, so we're working with an arborist to get it trimmed (again!) and thinned out, so it doesn't cause further damage!

My mom loved trees too, and after she died last Nov., I received a letter and certificate from the Batesville (Indiana) Casket Co. They partner with the USDA Forest Service to have living memorial trees planted in national forests. They had this done in Mom's memory. She used to recite from the poem Trees, "Only God can make a tree." Vicki
