Favorite Foods...

Watching a toddler determine their favorite foods is a fascinating process. The transition from baby food to "big people" food is an exciting and sometimes frustrating step.

E has surprised us with some of her favorite foods:
  • cooked chicken - not nuggets, but the real deal...
  • green beans - can't get enough of 'em...
  • roast beef - I am still in shock over this one...
  • eggs, scrambled or hard boiled - can't get enough of these, either...
  • sliced cheese - sharp or medium cheddar, specifically...
  • whole wheat bread or tortillas - yum!...
  • chocolate chip cookies - she is my child after all...
  • chocolate pudding - chocoholism runs in the family...

40 Days and 40 Nights?

We have had so much rain in the past few months! Yesterday, it rained harder than I have ever seen it rain .... water was standing all around our home. Our rain gauge was so full, it was overflowing....it only holds five inches of water....and rain continued to come down.

Yesterday, E and I were playing with one of her toys....a soft, plush Noah's Ark.

The irony of that choice dawned on me this morning.

God did say He'd never destroy the world by flood again ~ but I suppose He wasn't specific about the Dallas/Fort Worth area!

Installation and Ordination...

Yesterday evening, we had the opportunity to attend a great church service. Our church installed a new associate pastor - and the installation service was also the ordination service for this pastor, since he just graduated from the seminary.

We have attended a few ordinations and installations, but it is always so neat to see so many pastors gather to pray for their new brother in the ministry. And the singing and hymns at these services is always phenomenal!

The service made for a very long day for E, but it was such a neat experience!

My Daddy has the coolest tool magazine!

Don't you think she looks like she's ready to place an order? We snapped this pic after E sat for quite a while intently paging through a tool catalog that hubby received via mail. The child reads anything and everything she can get her hands on - mail, cards, magazines, books....

More fun at the library....

We had so much fun at the library again today! We sang songs, read books and and played peek-a-boo again. E's favorite part is still the colorful scarves used to play peek-a-boo!

E really had fun playing with baby Ethan again, too. He is such a cute little guy!!! She has such fun with him and enjoys watching all of the babies, children and Mommies. There was even one Daddy there today! Hooray for him!

Purple crayon...

Doesn't E look like an art pro in this photo? I'm not sure how we got this shot....we've introduced her to Crayons a few times....but to see her holding it fairly correctly -- and in her left hand -- is not anywhere close to what usually happens when she sees Crayons and paper! E is definitely a right-handed girl, much to my chagrin! I wanted her to be a lefty like me! But she eats solely with her right hand and does most other things right-handed too. And she thinks Crayons are to nibble on....we keep telling her "don't eat it, draw with it!" We'll get there eventually! :-)

Sweet husband....

My husband received extra brownie points this weekend for two separate incidents (two among many)....

-Saturday afternoon I was taking a nap....E woke from her nap early and hubby got E her milk and played with her quietly in the other room so I could sleep! Rest....what sweet bliss!

-I was trying to get some work done on the computer and E kept trying to "help". Hubby said to E "let's let mommy play in here by herself while we go play in the other room..."

What a helpful hubby and great daddy! I love that man o' mine!

Baptism Birthday...

One year ago today, E was baptized at our church....

...the same church where I was baptized as a baby, where I was confirmed and had my first communion as an 8th grader and where hubby and I were married. Such special memories!

Library storytime...

We had tons of fun this morning at library story time. It's a story time specifically for babies 23 months and younger. E loved the songs, actions, books and especially playing peek a boo with colorful scarves. She's always loved watching other children, and today was no exception!

We went to story time with our friend Ethan (who was - along with his mommy Britney - wiped out from a hard night teething and, as a result, fell asleep). We also met a new friend named Oliver (along with his mommy Amanda). They live in Ethan's neighborhood.

A fun day! We can't wait to go again next week!

On the move!

E has been speed crawling all over the house and "walking" while holding on to furniture and walls. She does a great Spiderman impression, holding her hands flat against the walls and scooting along the walls, it's so funny. Today, she realized she can reach doorknobs, and she also figured out how to take the "Shhhh, baby sleeping!" doorhanger off of her nursery door.

This photo caught her in the act!

Busy day....

This morning our friend Amy came over with her two sweet kiddos -- Claire and Nathan. E had such a fun time playing with the big kids!!!

Later this week, we're looking forward to more time with friends when we go to our first library story time with our friend Ethan. It's such fun to see E interact with other children, she has such a great time and really gets a kick out of watching "the big kids".

This evening my parents stopped by for a moment on their way home after going out for dinner. We snapped this cute pic of E with them....what a cheesy group! Smiles all around!

Fun morning...

Hubby took the morning off so I could run errands by myself and go get a pedicure. What a good man I've got! :-)

I've been tagged by Kim to tell you eight little known (or maybe not so little known) facts about myself....hmmm.

1) At one of the public relations offices in Addison in which I worked, a drunk driver plowed his car through our office lobby, taking out a wall, a computer credenza, a laptop, a printer and the lobby and bathroom next door.

2) As I've gotten older, I've learned the value of friends -- more and more each day. I have some long-time "forever" friends (since I was three years old) and some new friends that I've only met recently ... but they are all such an important part of my life.

3) I didn't drink coffee until I started my public relations career. Now? I'm addicted.

4) I started drinking hot tea when I was in middle school -- a weird habit for a kid, I know. My friends thought I was very strange...but I wanted to be like a special friend of my mom's who loved "tea and cookies". At one of the piano academies where I took lessons, the owner also served tea and cookies to some students before their lessons - and I was selected to participate in the ritual....I'm still addicted to that, too! Coffee in the morning! Tea during E's afternoon nap!

5) Since Kim mentioned bridesmaid dresses, I will add that I was in two weddings in one day when I was in college -- a morning wedding and an afternoon wedding ... two dear high school friends. Both had forest green bridesmaid dresses ... each that were totally different.

6) Including those weddings mentioned above, I have been in almost 10 weddings in a variety of capacities. I have a rainbow of bridesmaid dresses (one of which I've worn again). E will have a lot to play "dress up" with -- forest green, peach, bright light green, navy blue and more!

7) Before I had E, I really wondered how I'd shift my hyper-active brain from "work mode" to "Mommy mode". God makes amazing provisions for us and provides exactly what we need. Now, I am blessed to be a stay at home Mom to a wonderful daughter and I get to do a little bit of freelance work on the side. It's great to be able to "do both".

8) Last fact, hummm, let's see....here's a good one. When I was a junior in college, a journalism reporting class I was taking "required" us to obtain an email address through the University of North Texas email system. I remember thinking..."email, what will I ever use that for? I don't need that!" Ha! Now, I check my email constantly throughout the day....and I'm blogging, no less!

Who to tag next? I'll go for Britney, Philip and Christy, since I know they are faithful blog readers.

Out of the mouths of babes....

Last night E and I were reading My Bible Storybook, a birthday present given to E by our dear friend Caroline. We were going through the Bible stories and I was telling E about Adam, Eve, Jonah and other stories in the book. E seemed especially captivated by the pages depicting Daniel and the lion's den. I kept telling her "Daniel" and "lion". Finally, she said "aniel?" I thought it might have been a fluke...but she kept flipping through the book and every time she hit that page, she said "aniel?". Again this morning, she pulled the book out of her "book box" and opened to that page, saying "aniel?"....Wow, she amazes me every day!

Anything to entertain the baby....

This morning, I spent a good deal of time installing safety latches on the bottom cabinets in our kitchen. It should have been done before now, but well....yeah. You know how these things go sometimes. I was tired of chasing E out of the kitchen a million times a day -- and fearing for the safety of the contents of our china cabinet....so I set to work.

E thought the pounding and installation were very entertaining....she was banging on the cabinet doors with her hands - such a helper! It was also fun to see Mommy crawling all around on the floor, so she helped by climbing my back, crawling into my lap, tugging on my shirt -- again, so helpful!....and she also tried to filch the screwdriver and hammer for her own amusement. I did not let her, of course.....

The things we do to entertain our children....or, more accurately, to keep them safe! :-)
